Nick Cave announced that he will release, together with Belgian composer Nicholas Lens, a new album entitled “L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S.”.

The work is described as an “opera of confinement”, and was inspired not only by the “silence” Lens encountered during these months of pandemic, but also by a past visit to Japan.

The composer then asked Cave to write the texts for his works, replicating a partnership that took place in 2014, in the opera “Shell Shock”.

“I wanted to work with someone who was a beginner when it came to opera. Someone credible and authentic in the way he uses words. Nick was obviously that person,” Lens explained.

“I wanted to work with someone who was fresh to the field of opera; someone who was most believable and authentic in the way they would use words. Nick was obviously that person,” Lens added.

The 12 pieces written by Cave were, however, described by himself as “petitions to a divine creator, demanding some kind of cosmic recognition”. “L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S.” will be released by Deutsche Grammophon on December 4th.
